The Elect Lady Hines Scholarship was started when Leontyne Hines retired from the state of Michigan in 2019. In lieu of a celebration or party for herself, she chose to create this scholarship to inspire and encourage women who are seeking to further their education, career, business ideas, etc. It is a matching scholarship, up to $1,000.

Tony Hurst started it off with $10,000 and another $12,000 was raised in gifts, totalling $22,000 at it’s origin in 2019.
