Lily Missions Center’s
Teen Transition
A safe haven
The core mission of the Teen Transition Program is to offer a safe space for teens to come together and build a sense of community, belonging, and purpose. This program goes beyond just a place to hang out—it is a space where young people can receive the mentorship and support they need to succeed in life, particularly as they transition into adulthood.
The Teen Transition Program at Lily Missions Center (LMC) was born out of Pastor Hines' deep commitment to the well-being and safety of the youth in our community. Over the years, Pastor Hines became acutely aware of the struggles teens face in our area, particularly the lack of safe places to go after school, on weekends, and especially in the evenings. He saw firsthand how difficult it could be for young people to find guidance and support during crucial moments in their lives.
“
the origin of teen transition
One tragic incident served as the catalyst for creating the Teen Transition Program. One evening, after Pastor Hines decided to close the gym at LMC for the night, a young man who was a regular visitor was tragically killed. Even more devastating, the two individuals responsible for his death lost their lives that very night as well. This heartbreaking event profoundly impacted Pastor Hines and underscored the urgent need for a safe, supervised space for teens to gather, engage, and grow.
In response, Pastor Hines founded Teen Night at LMC—a dedicated time for teens to come together in a safe environment, away from the dangers of the streets, and experience the support and guidance they needed. Over time, Teen Night evolved into a comprehensive Teen Transition Program aimed at providing lasting support, mentorship, and resources for teens as they navigate their journey from high school to adulthood.
Building Life Skills & Confidence
The Teen Transition Program also focuses on developing essential life skills that will serve teens long after they leave high school. Through a variety of workshops, activities, and group discussions, teens learn practical skills such as:
Financial Literacy
Teaching teens the basics of budgeting, saving, and financial planning to set them up for future success.
Leadership Development
Providing opportunities for teens to lead activities, make decisions, and take ownership of their actions.
Educational Aspirations
By bringing college students back to their community, the program helps create a cycle of inspiration. Teens who may not have previously considered college or professional careers are now encouraged to look to their future and make a plan.
Goal-Setting
Helping teens set realistic goals for their personal, academic, and professional futures, and providing them with the tools to achieve them.
★★★★★
The Teen Transition Program is not a one-time intervention—it is an ongoing investment in the lives of young people, providing them with consistent support, mentorship, and opportunities. Pastor Hines and the LMC team are committed to walking alongside each teen as they navigate the complex journey from high school to adulthood.
A legacy of hope
The Teen Transition Program is a powerful reminder of the impact that community, mentorship, and compassion can have on the lives of young people. What started as a response to a tragic event has now blossomed into a program that continues to transform lives in the Jackson area and beyond. By providing teens with a safe place to gather, the opportunity to learn from mentors, and the encouragement to dream bigger, LMC is creating a foundation for long-term change and growth.
